Minute Man National Historical Park

As I had mentioned earlier, I spend my birthday last week taking the day off work and heading down to Minute Man National Historical Park in Massachusetts.

I had more fun than I probably should have. I think I remember going on field trips to places like this when I was in grade school and not really liking it too much. I never would have thought that I’d willingly want to go learn about history on my birthday. I probably just always assumed I’d be cooler when I was 26. XD

Oh well.

I had a really great time taking photos and seeing the actual places I will be drawing in the next issue of the comic. I also picked up some cool books about 18th century clothing and one specifically about April 19, 1775 with reenactment photographs taken throughout the park. Pretty cool.

I’m definitely going to head down there again in April for Patriot’s Day. I hear they have some cool reenactment stuff that’d I’d love to go to. If you’re ever in the area, I would highly suggest a trip to this place. I dorked out ALL DAY. Make sure you check out the photo gallery I put together below this post. There are stupid captions and everything!

    You don’t seem weird at all. In fact, you would make a great traveling buddy. I dork out at places like this, too. (I once dragged my family to the USS Hornet, a WWII aircraft carrier-turned-museum ship docked in San Francisco Bay while we were on vacation. Mostly because an episode of JAG was filmed there.)

    Hope you get your computer issues figured out soon. If you know someone who’s good with computers, it is possible to get your files moved to whatever new computer you get. (Just don’t ask me how it’s done.)

      Haha, why, thank you! n.n; The USS Hornet sounds like fun too. I’m always afraid those old aircraft carriers are haunted!

      I actually got my computer to turn on yesterday, so I bought an external hard drive and backed up all my files. I’m taking home my laptop from work now, so I’ll be able to start working on the comic tonight. I’m aiming to have a new page up on Tuesday. :D

    Wow, looks like you had a lot of fun. I love historic stuff especially this time period XD Nice captions, the Ferngully reference made me laugh out loud literally.

    P.S. I love how you handled your gallery. How’d you do it? I’m trying to find gallery solutions with WordPress.

      I was hoping someone would get my lame Ferngully reference! Should have known it would have been you. ;)

      The gallery is just HTML tables a-la-1999. The lightbox effect is a plugin for wordpress called Lightbox 2: http://stimuli.ca/lightbox/

      Once you install the plugin any image in your wordpress blog that links to an image will automatically work like a gallery with next/back arrows (if there are numbered images in a folder) and have the lightbox popup window by default. It’s easy.

    This is great! I love going to these sorts of things, but I’m a Canadian who lives in Southern Alberta, so there’s not a lot to see. (I do drag my family off to visit old Mountie forts sometimes, though.) So don’t feel alone! We’re all nerds here.

      Canada is cool. I want to go back there someday. I haven’t been there for like 15 years. I’d like to check out some of the old forts too.
